Abstract
This research aims to find out what types of idiomatic expressions are used in the voice line of Dota 2 video game heroes and what the contextual meaning of idiomatic expressions described in the voice line of Dota 2 video game heroes. The results of this study used 50 heroes found in the Dota 2 game. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive analysis method. The researcher explains the types and meanings of idiomatic expressions in the voice line of Dota 2 video game heroes using Hockett's theory and the researcher finds the contextual meaning. The data is in the form of several words and sentences including idiomatic expressions used in the voice line of Dota 2 video game heroes. Data analysis was done by categorizing and identifying data to find conclusions. The research findings are as follows: In the voice line of hero Dota 2 video game, five of Hockett's six types of idiomatic expressions were found. The five types of expressions are eight Substitutes idioms, twelve Proper Name idioms, seven English Phrasal Compounds idioms, fourteen Figures of Speech
idioms, and nine Slang idioms. Figures of Speech idioms are the most common type of idiomatic expression found.
