The development of technology often brings new things that bring benefits to
users. One form of technological development is artificial intelligence, or what is
usually called AI. One form of AI is chatGPT. ChatGPT can be used by anyone, as
long as there is internet access. One of ChatGPT's users is a student. Because of
the convenience provided by ChatGPT in helping students work on their tasks,
many students have a different perception of how and when to use ChatGPT.
Based on the student’s perception towards ChatGPT it might related to the
student’s critical thinking. This research aims to find out whether there is a
correlation between English education university student’s perceptions towards
ChatGPT and their critical thinking. The research was conducted using

correlation between English education university students’ perception of ChatGPT
and their critical thinking. The critical thinking average score gathered was 23,75
means that the student’s critical thinking score falls upon the “good”.

ChatGPT was 3,52. According to the categorization of the questionnaire, this
means that the score of student’s perception on ChatGPT in total was High (3.50-
5.00). after testing the data using the Pearson correlation, Spearman’s rank, and
Kendall’s tau correlation, the result was that there was no significant correlation
between students’ perceptions on ChatGPT and their Critical Thinking.
